Gettin' High With Jesus
As a kid growing up my mother took me to church every Sunday....and I'm so glad I'm no longer a kid! I haven't been to church in over 12 years...Amen! But when you go to Rio, and have the chance to see a 98 ft. tall Jesus Christ statue at the peak of the 2300 ft. Corcovado Mountain (overlooking the entire city).....I'm there!
Christ the Redeemer was put together piece by piece between 1922-1931. Below the statue is a small chapel used by Catholics for baptisms and weddings. To get to this iconic attraction, you must take the cog train up the mountain and through the Tijuca Forest National Park.
We arrived early in the morning and fought with a haze of clouds just to see the statue. Snap a picture. Wait two minutes. Snap again! Wait six minutes. (repeat!) While Jesus was hiding out in the clouds, we would take advantage of the some of the beautiful views from high above the city.
Wait 2 minutes.....snap again!
